Red-winged Blackbirds are Coming to Our Feeders and are Eating Us Out of Seed!

March 30, 2015 - 11:05am -- Laura Crawford

Hello bird watchers, this is Seth your bird reporter and I have some good news about Mrs. Crawford's class. Even though the numbers have dropped on our smaller birds the numbers on our big birds has improved with some new birds visiting our feeders. The Red-winged Blackbird has starting coming to our feeders and has been eating a lot of our seed, so we are running out of seed to fill the bird feeders. I wonder if their stomachs are endless pits because of how much  they eat.

Where Have All the Birds Gone? Big Numbers Are Dropping.

March 17, 2015 - 1:29pm -- Laura Crawford

Hello and this is Seth, your bird reporter and watcher, reporting that the bird numbers are dropping which is probaly because it is nesting season. They are not coming to the feeders as often and are making nests instead, but that might soon change when they are feeding their young. Recently, Mrs. Crawford's class has been losing numbers that they used to have. Also, wait no, it can't end yet! Fine I'll wrap it up. Okay see you tomorrow on the Bird Watcher News on Channel 9.

Snow Geese Fly Over

February 9, 2015 - 8:48pm -- Laura Crawford

One advantage to our school's location adjacent to Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge (Lake Lowell), is that migrating birds frequently fly over the play ground. Today a flock of geese flew over during recess time & they were not the usual Canada geese. The class noticed the difference right away. These geese were white with black wing tips, snow geese.  It was an exciting spot. What birds will migrate over the playground next?
