Snow Geese Fly Over

February 9, 2015 - 8:48pm -- Laura Crawford

One advantage to our school's location adjacent to Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge (Lake Lowell), is that migrating birds frequently fly over the play ground. Today a flock of geese flew over during recess time & they were not the usual Canada geese. The class noticed the difference right away. These geese were white with black wing tips, snow geese.  It was an exciting spot. What birds will migrate over the playground next?

February 7, 2015 - 2:19pm -- Laura Crawford

Last week Kacey Kai came for her monthly visit. This month's topic was waterfowl. Kacey brought along art supplies for students to work on pictures of waterfowl to enter in this year's Jr. Duck Stamp contest.

Mccall's Birds of Prey

February 4, 2015 - 1:01pm -- Laura Crawford

Hello! Its bird reporters Rylee and Milan for the first time. Rylee reports seeing bald eagles up on a trip to Mccall's Winter Carnival. The eagle was sitting in a tree when we passed, in a giant nest. I was amazed at the size of it. Now I am turning it over to Milan. Thanks Rylee, it's Milan reporting backing up Rylee's story. I also was in the presence of the Bald Eagle.   Thanks Milan! Good times, I'd also like to report  that our feeders are going well, and no signs of the murderous harp shine hawk. We've seen few mourning doves and as usual, tons of finches and quail. All is well at our feeders, so it seems we're signing out! This is your co-bird reporters, Milan and Rylee, signing out for the very first time!

The Finches, Juncos, Sparrows, and Starlings Strike Back Against the Sharp-Shin!

January 29, 2015 - 12:49pm -- Laura Crawford

Greetings bird watchers, this is Seth with the bird news for you. Sadly, my buddy Sean cannot be with us today because of P.E. Basketball practice, but I am here today. Okay, the news is that the Little Birds have Striked back against the Sharp-Shinned Hawk and are still holding him off. They are still holding him off and are still feeding in the feeding zone. I would send you a picture but the sharp-shin ruined my camera. Okay, sorry but I am out of time. See you next time when birds go crazy. :) :) :) :)
