Bird Feeders for everyone!

April 7, 2016 - 4:40pm -- Raptors

Julie Steele from Wild Birds Unlimited donated bird feeders and seed for each member of our class!

Thanks so much for the generous contribution. We can't wait to see what birds come to visit at our homes.

Curlew Name Contest

March 15, 2016 - 10:20am -- Raptors

Our class is participating the Curlew Naming Contest sponsored by Intermountain Bird Observatory.

Ms. Ware came to our class and told us about tracking these amazing birds. We fell for these curious creatures immediately!

Our names are from our study of Idaho Symbols. We chose "Syringa" (our state Flower) for the female and "Star Garnet" (our state gem)

for the male. Wish us luck!

Merlin Visits!

January 8, 2016 - 3:14pm -- Raptors

Today Mrs. Forderhase brought one of her feathered friends to visit our class.

Merlin is a Great Horned Owl. He was found after being hit by a car (or so we think). He has a damaged right wind.

He was a bit cranky today. We knew that because his "horned feathers" were folded back and he also was hissing. His talons were enormous!

We finished our visit by creating our own "Bird Feet" that we can wear!

Thanks for visiting always, Mrs. F and especially for bringing your friend, Merlin!

Intermountain Bird Observatory--River site

October 23, 2015 - 1:31pm -- Raptors

On Thursday Oct. 8 our class had a fun field trip!

We went to the river site for the Intermountain Bird Observatory to observe and band birds.

The students identified and banned: 2 Ruby-Crowned Kinglets, several Yellow Rumped Warblers, 2 Black-Capped Chickadees,

a House Finch and a Mountain Chickadee.

We learned a lot about birds that migrate through Idaho as well as the birds that make their home in Idaho year round.

Our thanks to Heidi and all her wonderful volunteers for making this a memorable experience!
