The food is there but not many takers

The food is there but not many takers

September 30, 2015 - 1:34pm -- adale

We hung the feeders up but as of yet there have only been a couple of takers. It is really fun listening to students ideas about why we haven't had too much activity. All have said something about the time of day being a factor of when the birds may be more hungry. We are also seeing a lot of birds flying overhead. Some are gearing up for migration and some are right in the middle of it. Across the street there was a melanistic Swanson's hawk they has been working a hay field. It was here on Monday but we haven't seen it since then. We almost feel like one of our group has moved away. It is distinct enough in its appearance that I am sure we will be able to recognize him/her when spring rolls around. We have also seen large groups of Brewer's blackbirds moving through. Really looking forward to the feeders getting really active.
